Hello Turtle River Township,
It was my pleasure to be in attendance for a presentation by Bemidji Fire Chief Justin Sherwood as he presented us with a review of the services provided by his skilled crew of firefighters. A portion of your township tax dollars goes to funding our ability to call out fire service to protect our residents in case of emergencies.
In January, we had a two-car garage that had become engulfed in flames, and then in March we had grass fires break out along Birchmont Beach Road. In both cases they were able to protect the primary dwellings and limit the spread of the fire to adjoining properties. It's something we never want to have happen, but when it does, we almost take it for granted that someone is going to be there to help us in our time of need.
What we have to understand is that this is a service that requires our involvement. Because all of us are willing to contribute a little, we are all able to enjoy an essential benefit that no individual resident could ever afford alone. I thank Justin Sherwood and his crew for all they do to keep us and our properties safe.
If you would like any additional information on how your township tax dollars help fund our emergency services, feel free to contact me at turtleriversup@gmail.com. Or for more information about the Bemidji Fire Department go to www.ci.bemidji.mn.us/fire.
